What Dia De Los Muertos Taught me about Living My Spiritual Path

Writer's picture: Monica MontefioreMonica Montefiore

This post is a little delayed, but the lessons are timeless—and today, on the powerful 11:11 portal, my intention is to amplify the love, devotion, deep connection, and community that I felt so strongly during this experience. 😊

I had the privilege of being in Mexico for Día de los Muertos this year, and I was completely awed by the love, beauty, and reverence the Mexican people show towards their ancestors.

Spiritually and emotionally, this journey gave me so much. Here are a few of the insights I’m carrying forward:

✨ The power of memento mori—the reminder that I WILL DIE and the importance of cherishing every single moment I am alive.

✨ The strength of community—generations of families came together for the festivities, and I felt the depth of wisdom and presence from the elders in the procession of floats and costumes.

✨ Devotion in honoring the departed—the community’s dedication was palpable in the abundant ofrendas that lined the streets and their visits to the cemetery.

✨ The power of ritual—a sacred way of connecting to Grandmother Earth, to each other, and to our truest Selves.

✨ The joy of play and creativity—dressing up, painting our faces, and adorning ourselves with flower crowns awakened my inner child, allowing me to express a freedom and creativity I hadn’t expected.

✨ The collective power of coming together in celebration—the streets pulsed with love, joy, and shared purpose, creating a deep sense of belonging and connection.

Día de los Muertos, with its rituals and sense of unity, deeply grounded in my heart the importance of my own devotional practices as a means of connecting to Spirit and honoring the Divine in all beings.

I’ll carry this experience with me forever, along with the love, courage, and resilience of my ancestors who have brought me to this abundant, beautiful life.
